Nocturne: Apple TV’s Official Trailer Unveils a Chilling Serial Killer Thriller

Apple TV is bringing a new mystery to the screen with Nocturne, a crime thriller that places a determined detective, an elusive serial killer and a desperate search for a missing victim at the center of its story. Led by Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz and Stephen Graham, the upcoming series combines a tense criminal investigation with a personal battle that threatens to destroy a family.

The official trailer introduces a dark, unsettling atmosphere where danger can emerge from unexpected places. Rather than relying solely on the mystery surrounding a killer, Nocturne builds its premise around the emotional consequences of confronting a predator whose actions reach far beyond the crime scene.

Apple TV has scheduled the series to premiere globally on October 30, 2026. With an established crime-fiction story behind it and an experienced ensemble leading the cast, Nocturne is preparing to bring a suspense-driven mystery to the streaming platform.

Nocturne Official Trailer: A Detective Faces His Most Dangerous Case

The trailer introduces Jonah Lynn, played by Liev Schreiber, a former soldier who becomes a homicide detective. After years of working in Philadelphia, Jonah moves to a small town in western Pennsylvania, hoping to leave the pressures of his former life behind.

However, the promise of a quieter existence quickly disappears when a ruthless serial killer threatens the community and the people Jonah loves.

Stephen Graham plays Jurek Walter, the central antagonist whose calculated actions drive the investigation. As the search for Jurek’s final missing victim intensifies, Jonah faces a case that becomes increasingly personal.

The investigation also draws in FBI Agent Saga Bauer, played by Zazie Beetz. Saga is Jonah’s surrogate daughter, and her involvement places their relationship under extraordinary pressure. When Jonah sends Saga directly into the investigation, he must confront a difficult question: how much is he willing to risk to stop the killer?

This personal connection gives Nocturne a compelling foundation. The central conflict involves more than identifying a criminal. Jonah must weigh his responsibilities as a detective against his instinct to protect his family.

Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz and Stephen Graham Lead the Cast

The three principal performances provide the series with its central dramatic framework.

Liev Schreiber as Jonah Lynn: Schreiber leads the story as a former soldier turned homicide detective. Jonah’s experience gives him the background to pursue dangerous criminals, but his emotional attachment to Saga creates a vulnerability that the investigation can exploit.

Zazie Beetz as Saga Bauer: Beetz plays an FBI agent whose professional responsibilities bring her into direct contact with a dangerous investigation. Her relationship with Jonah adds another layer to the story, particularly when his decisions place her in harm’s way.

Stephen Graham as Jurek Walter: Graham portrays the serial killer at the heart of the mystery. Jurek’s ability to threaten both the investigation and Jonah’s personal life establishes the antagonist as a central force throughout the series.

The supporting cast includes Bill Camp, Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, Poorna Jagannathan and Gary Carr. Their involvement expands the ensemble surrounding the central investigation.

A Crime Thriller Based on Lars Kepler’s Novels

Nocturne draws its story from the internationally bestselling crime novels associated with Lars Kepler, the pen name of Swedish writing duo Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril.

Apple’s announcement identifies Lazarus and The Sandman among the novels behind the adaptation. The series brings this crime-fiction material to television through a story built around a determined investigator, a dangerous killer and a missing-person case.

For viewers unfamiliar with the source material, the central premise offers a clear entry point. The investigation provides the suspense, while Jonah and Saga’s relationship gives the mystery an emotional dimension.

The adaptation also places the story in a contemporary American setting, moving from Philadelphia to a small Pennsylvania town. This change in environment creates a contrast between Jonah’s previous professional life and the quieter existence he hopes to establish.

Who Is Behind Nocturne?

Rowan Joffé created the series for television, while John Hlavin developed it for the screen and serves as showrunner. Both writers also serve as executive producers.

Tim Van Patten directs the first two episodes and joins the production as an executive producer. Apple TV produces the series through A+E Studios, in association with Range Studios.

This creative team brings together television experience and a crime-fiction foundation. The adaptation’s success will ultimately depend on how effectively it balances the investigation, the characters’ relationships and the gradual revelation of the killer’s methods.

Nocturne Release Date: When Does It Premiere on Apple TV?

Apple TV will release Nocturne globally on Friday, October 30, 2026, with its first two episodes.

The remaining episodes will arrive weekly on Fridays, with the season finale scheduled for December 25, 2026. The first season contains 10 episodes.

This weekly release schedule gives viewers time to follow the investigation as the story develops, rather than presenting the entire season at once. Viewers can watch the series through Apple TV, subject to service availability in their region.

Why Nocturne Deserves Attention

The central appeal of Nocturne lies in the conflict between professional duty and personal responsibility. Jonah has the experience to pursue a dangerous criminal, but his connection to Saga complicates every decision he makes.

The series also brings together three performers with distinct roles in the story: Schreiber’s determined investigator, Beetz’s FBI agent and Graham’s threatening antagonist. That combination gives the mystery a clear dramatic structure.

The official trailer establishes the danger without resolving the central questions. Who will find the missing victim? Can Jonah stop Jurek before the threat reaches his family again? And what consequences will Saga face as she gets closer to the killer?

Those questions form the foundation of the series without revealing how the investigation ends.

Final Thought

Nocturne promises a gripping blend of crime, mystery, and psychological suspense, bringing together Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz, and Stephen Graham in a story where every decision carries a personal cost. As a determined detective pursues a dangerous serial killer, the line between professional duty and protecting loved ones begins to blur. With its unsettling atmosphere, compelling characters, and high-stakes investigation, Nocturne has the ingredients to keep crime-thriller fans invested from the opening episode to the finale. The official trailer sets the stage for a chilling mystery, and viewers can discover how the story unfolds when the series premieres on Apple TV on October 30, 2026.
