There is something instantly intriguing about a childhood friendship that refuses to disappear with age. Netflix’s upcoming Australian film Allen takes that idea into unexpected territory by bringing an alien best friend back into the life of a man who never quite moved on from their first encounter.
The newly released Allen official trailer introduces a warm, nostalgic story before gradually revealing a much bigger science-fiction adventure. At its center is Petey, a Queensland man whose childhood was changed forever when he became friends with an extraterrestrial named Allen. Two decades after Allen disappeared, the alien returns but this reunion comes with a secret that could change everything.
The film is scheduled to premiere globally on Netflix on November 12, 2026.
What Is Allen About?
At first glance, Allen looks like a lighthearted alien adventure, but the story appears to have a more personal foundation.
According to Netflix’s official synopsis, Petey never got over his childhood encounter with Allen. Twenty years later, his unusual friend returns, although the reason behind the reunion is far more complicated than Petey expected.
The trailer expands on that premise. Young Petey develops a friendship with Allen before the two are separated. As an adult, Petey continues carrying the memory of his extraordinary childhood experience.
When Allen finally comes back, Petey is forced to confront the past while dealing with an increasingly chaotic present.
That gives Allen an interesting hook: this is not simply a story about a person meeting an alien. It is also a story about growing up, unfinished memories and the way childhood experiences can continue shaping adult life.
Allen Official Trailer: What Does It Reveal?
The Allen Netflix trailer carefully balances comedy, nostalgia and science fiction.
The opening images establish Petey’s emotional connection to Allen, while the trailer gradually introduces the extraterrestrial visitor and the circumstances surrounding his return. The visual contrast between childhood memories and Petey’s adult life gives the film a nostalgic quality.
But the tone changes as the story develops.
The trailer hints at strange events, danger and a secret connected to Allen’s return. Instead of presenting the alien simply as a mysterious visitor, the film appears to use Allen’s arrival as the trigger for a much larger adventure.
That tonal shift could be one of the movie’s strongest selling points. Viewers expecting a straightforward family alien film may find something more ambitious underneath the humor.
Who Stars in Allen?
The film features T.J. Power as Petey, with Charlotte Nicdao, Josh Helman, Emily Barclay, Benedict Hardie, Kaipo Heke, Chaydon Jay and Danny Kim among the cast. Edward A. O’Sullivan plays Young Petey.
Power leads the story as the adult Petey, giving the character a difficult task: making the audience believe that a childhood friendship with an extraterrestrial could remain important decades later.
Charlotte Nicdao, meanwhile, is part of the principal adult cast, alongside Josh Helman and the film’s wider Australian ensemble.
The casting also reinforces the movie’s distinctly Australian identity rather than making it feel like a generic Hollywood science-fiction production.
Ludo Studio Moves Into Live-Action
One of the biggest reasons Allen deserves attention is the company behind it.
Ludo Studio is best known internationally for Bluey, but the Brisbane-based studio has increasingly expanded into live-action storytelling.
Allen represents Ludo Studio’s first locally produced live-action feature film. The company says the movie was created and directed by Daley Pearson, who co-wrote the screenplay with Sophie Miller and co-directed the film with Jeffrey Walker.
That background matters because Ludo’s reputation is built around character-driven storytelling. The studio’s move from animation into a live-action family feature makes Allen more than another Netflix release; it marks an important step in the company’s development.
Who Created and Directed Allen?
Daley Pearson created Allen and co-wrote the screenplay with Sophie Miller. Pearson also directs the movie alongside Jeffrey Walker.
Pearson’s previous work includes Talk to Me and The Strange Chores, while Walker has worked on projects including The Artful Dodger and Apple Cider Vinegar.
The production team includes Sam Moor and Ross Allsop as producers, with Lauren Brown serving as co-producer. Pearson, Sophie Miller and Charlie Aspinwall are executive producers.
Where Was Allen Filmed?
The movie was filmed in Queensland, including Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Production began in 2025, with Screen Queensland supporting the project through its production incentives.
The Queensland setting is particularly relevant to the film’s identity. Pearson has described the story as being inspired by the area where he grew up, with the movie exploring love, family and the childhood experiences that shape people as they become adults.
That personal connection could give Allen a stronger sense of place than a typical studio-made alien adventure.
Allen Netflix Release Date
Allen premieres globally on Netflix on November 12, 2026. Netflix currently categorizes the film across family, Australian, science-fiction and drama genres.
The release puts the film in an interesting position. Its alien premise can attract science-fiction audiences, while its themes of friendship, family and growing up give it broader appeal.
Final Thought
Allen looks set to be more than just another alien movie on Netflix. At its heart, the story appears to be about friendship, childhood memories and the unexpected ways the past can return to change the present. The combination of an emotional reunion, Australian setting and science-fiction adventure gives the film a distinctive appeal.
With Ludo Studio stepping into live-action filmmaking and the trailer promising both warmth and mystery, Allen is already shaping up as an intriguing Netflix release to watch. Whether it delivers the emotional depth suggested by its premise remains to be seen, but the film certainly has enough originality to stand out when it arrives on November 12, 2026.
For viewers who enjoy heartfelt stories wrapped in a sci-fi adventure, Allen is one Netflix title worth keeping on the radar.
