The world of Turkish historical television is entering another major transition, and Tuğba Tutuğ is at the center of it. The young actress has joined the fourth season of TRT1’s Mehmed: Sultan of Conquests (Mehmed: Fetihler Sultanı), where she will portray Ayşe Hatun.

The casting news comes at an interesting moment in the production’s journey. The historical drama is preparing to return with a time jump and a substantially renewed cast, while Serkan Çayoğlu continues in the title role as Sultan Mehmed. According to entertainment journalist Birsen Altuntaş, Tutuğ has already moved onto the production after completing her work on another major period drama.

For viewers who follow Turkey’s growing historical-drama landscape, the move is more than a routine casting change. Tutuğ is effectively moving from one ambitious period production to another, giving her an opportunity to establish a very different character within a much larger historical universe.

    Tuğba Tutuğ Becomes Ayşe Hatun

In Mehmed: Sultan of Conquests, Tuğba Tutuğ will play Ayşe Hatun. While specific story details about the character remain limited, the casting itself is significant because Season 4 is being positioned as a fresh chapter for the series.

TRT1’s official cast information confirms Serkan Çayoğlu as Sultan Mehmed, alongside returning and established performers in key roles.

The decision to refresh much of the ensemble following a time jump can give a long-running historical drama a renewed dramatic rhythm. It also creates space for newer performers to introduce characters who can shape the next stage of the story.

That makes Tutuğ’s arrival particularly worth watching.

From Terken Hatun to Another Historical Drama

Interestingly, Mehmed: Sultan of Conquests is not Tuğba Tutuğ’s first major historical role.

Before joining the TRT1 production, the actress portrayed Terken Hatun in Tabii’s 16-episode period series The Golden Age: Nizamülmülk. According to Birsen Altuntaş, filming on that production was scheduled to conclude before Tutuğ moved directly to the set of Mehmed: Sultan of Conquests.

The transition is notable because period dramas demand a particular combination of performance discipline, physical preparation and familiarity with historical settings. Costumes, formal dialogue, court politics and the visual language of the era all require actors to work within a very specific dramatic framework.

Tutuğ now gets the chance to build on that experience with another historical character.

Why Season 4 Could Feel Different

The biggest change surrounding Mehmed: Sultan of Conquests is not simply the addition of one actress. The production is entering its fourth season with a time jump and a heavily renewed ensemble, creating an opportunity to reshape relationships and introduce new dramatic conflicts.

That approach can be particularly effective for a historical series. Rather than repeating familiar conflicts, a time jump allows the writers to move the characters into a different stage of their lives and political circumstances.

The official TRT1 material shows how expansive the series has become, with storylines involving Sultan Mehmed, military commanders, palace figures and political rivals. Recent episodes have also placed major emphasis on campaigns, diplomacy, betrayal and the struggle for power.

Against that backdrop, the arrival of Ayşe Hatun could add another layer to the palace and character-driven side of the narrative.

Serkan Çayoğlu Leads a Renewed Ensemble

Serkan Çayoğlu’s continuation as Sultan Mehmed gives the fourth season an important point of continuity.

TRT1 officially lists Çayoğlu as Sultan Mehmed, with actors including Selim Bayraktar, Sinan Albayrak, Kenan Çoban and others forming part of the series’ established dramatic world.

At the same time, the production has continued announcing new additions. Hasan Denizyaran, for example, was previously reported as joining the fourth-season cast as Uğurlu.

This steady expansion suggests that the upcoming season is being designed as a substantial reset rather than a minor continuation.

    What Tuğba Tutuğ’s Casting Means

From a career perspective, the move could prove valuable for Tutuğ. Playing two different women in major Turkish period productions within a relatively short period gives her a chance to demonstrate range without stepping outside a genre that increasingly attracts international attention.

The important distinction will be characterisation.

Terken Hatun and Ayşe Hatun should not simply feel like variations of the same historical-drama archetype. Tutuğ’s challenge will be to make Ayşe Hatun feel individual, emotionally convincing and relevant to the evolving story.

That is ultimately what viewers will be watching for when the new season arrives.

    Final Thoughts

Tuğba Tutuğ’s casting as Ayşe Hatun adds another intriguing piece to the fourth-season puzzle of Mehmed: Sultan of Conquests. After portraying Terken Hatun in Nizamülmülk, she is immediately stepping into another ambitious historical production this time opposite Serkan Çayoğlu’s Sultan Mehmed.

With a time jump, a renewed ensemble and an expanding political storyline, Season 4 has the ingredients for a noticeably different chapter.

For fans of Turkish historical dramas, Ottoman-era series and Tuğba Tutuğ’s growing screen career, Ayşe Hatun is certainly a character worth keeping an eye on.
