Some heist stories focus on the perfect robbery. Others explore the people willing to risk everything to pull it off. Apple TV’s upcoming crime drama 12 12 12 aims to combine both ideas, placing a dangerous rivalry at the center of an elaborate European operation. With Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan leading the cast, the series promises a tense combination of criminal strategy, personal conflict, and unpredictable consequences.
The official promotional footage introduces a world where trust comes at a price and every decision could change the outcome. Rather than relying solely on the spectacle of a high-security robbery, 12 12 12 builds its identity around a distinctive timeline structure that could make the story especially compelling for crime-thriller fans.
Apple TV has confirmed that the eight-episode series will premiere globally on November 13, 2026. The first two episodes will arrive on launch day, followed by weekly episodes through December 25, 2026.
What Is 12 12 12 About?
According to Apple TV’s official series announcement, 12 12 12 follows a disgraced FBI agent, played by Anthony Mackie, and an American career criminal, portrayed by Jamie Dornan. Their paths collide in a high-stakes contest that stretches across Europe, with an ambitious raid on a bank vault beneath the streets of Zurich at the heart of the story.
The premise immediately establishes a conflict between law enforcement experience and criminal expertise. However, the distinction between those worlds may not be as simple as it first appears. A disgraced agent has professional failures to overcome, while an experienced criminal understands that even the most carefully designed operation can collapse under pressure.
That combination gives the series room to explore more than the mechanics of a robbery. Personal motives, competing interests, and shifting loyalties could prove just as important as the plan itself.
The official synopsis establishes the central rivalry, although viewers will have to wait for the complete series to discover how the characters’ decisions shape the outcome.
The Three Timelines That Set This Heist Apart
The most distinctive feature of 12 12 12 is its three-part timeline concept. Each episode unfolds across three connected periods: 12 months of planning, 12 hours during the heist, and 12 days following the operation.
This structure creates three different storytelling opportunities.
The planning period can reveal the preparation, intelligence gathering, and complicated relationships behind the robbery. It also offers opportunities to introduce mistakes or disagreements that may become significant later.
The 12-hour heist timeline shifts attention to immediate danger. Security systems, unexpected obstacles, and split-second decisions can turn a carefully prepared operation into a desperate struggle for survival.
The final 12 days introduce another question: what happens after the operation ends? Even a successful robbery can leave its participants exposed to betrayal, investigation, and consequences they never anticipated.
By connecting these periods, the series can build suspense through cause and effect rather than depending entirely on surprise twists. Viewers may see the consequences of a decision before discovering why a character made it.
That approach gives 12 12 12 a clear storytelling identity in a crowded crime-drama landscape.
Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan Lead the Cast
Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan bring different screen personas to the central confrontation.
Mackie, known for projects including Captain America: Brave New World, takes on the role of a disgraced FBI agent. The character’s professional downfall provides an immediate source of tension. Whether he seeks redemption, control, or something more personal remains a key question for the story.
Dornan, whose credits include The Tourist and The Fall, plays an American career criminal. His character operates in a world where experience can offer an advantage, but familiarity with danger does not guarantee safety.
Their contrasting roles create the foundation for a compelling dramatic rivalry. The most interesting confrontations often occur when both sides believe they understand the situation better than their opponent.
The supporting cast includes Jack Kesy, Agathe Rousselle, Sallie Harmsen, José Garcia, and Kali Reis, expanding the ensemble beyond its two central figures.
The Creative Team Behind Apple TV’s Crime Thriller
Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble created 12 12 12 and serve as executive producers. Kari Skogland, an Emmy-nominated and BAFTA-winning filmmaker, directs multiple episodes, including the pilot, and also serves as an executive producer.
Skogland’s involvement is a notable detail for viewers interested in the series’ visual direction. A story that moves between preparation, execution, and aftermath requires clear pacing and a strong sense of geography. The direction will play an important role in helping audiences follow the changing timelines without losing the tension.
Paramount Television Studios and Anonymous Content produce the series, bringing established television production experience to the project.
When Does 12 12 12 Premiere on Apple TV?
Apple TV has scheduled 12 12 12 for a global premiere on Friday, November 13, 2026. The series will launch with two episodes, followed by one new episode each Friday through December 25.
The eight-episode format gives the creative team room to develop the central robbery while exploring the motivations and consequences surrounding it.
Viewers who enjoy intelligent crime dramas, international thrillers, and stories built around elaborate criminal operations may want to add the series to their watchlists.
