There is something immediately intriguing about Club Kid. On the surface, it looks like a colorful New York story about nightlife, parties and a man who has spent years avoiding anything resembling conventional responsibility. But the new A24 film gradually reveals a more emotionally complicated idea: sometimes adulthood does not arrive when you expect it. Sometimes it simply walks through the door.

Written and directed by Jordan Firstman, Club Kid follows a hard-partying New York City club promoter whose chaotic lifestyle is interrupted when he discovers that he has a 10-year-old son he never knew existed. A24 lists the film for theatrical release on November 6, 2026, with Firstman starring alongside Cara Delevingne, Diego Calva, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Reggie Absolom and Colleen Camp.

A New York Story With More Than Party Energy

The trailer establishes a deliberately energetic world. New York is not simply a backdrop; it feels like part of the film’s personality. The city’s waterfront, crowded streets and nightlife atmosphere provide a striking contrast to the quieter emotional question at the center of the story: what happens when someone who has built his entire identity around freedom suddenly becomes responsible for another person?

That contrast gives Club Kid a stronger hook than a conventional coming-of-age comedy.

Peter, played by Firstman, appears to have mastered the art of living without looking too far ahead. His world revolves around parties, social scenes and the restless energy of downtown New York. Then comes his son, Arlo, played by Reggie Absolom, forcing Peter to confront a responsibility he never planned for.

The premise sounds familiar enough to be accessible, but the setting and perspective make it feel distinctly contemporary.

Jordan Firstman Makes His Feature Directorial Debut

One of the most interesting aspects of Club Kid is that Firstman is not simply the lead actor. He wrote and directed the film as well, making it his feature directorial debut. The Cannes Film Festival selected the movie for Un Certain Regard, identifying it as Firstman’s first film.

That matters because the movie appears to draw directly from Firstman’s particular comedic sensibility while giving it a more mature dramatic framework.

Rather than presenting Peter as a perfect hero who suddenly learns responsibility, Club Kid seems more interested in his contradictions. He can be selfish, impulsive and ridiculous, yet still capable of genuine affection. That mixture creates room for humor without making the character emotionally disposable.

The result could be one of the more unusual fatherhood stories of the 2026 movie season.

The Father-Son Relationship Is the Real Hook

The most promising element of the Club Kid trailer is not the parties. It is the relationship developing between Peter and his son.

The story asks a deceptively simple question: Can someone who has spent years avoiding responsibility learn how to become a parent?

The answer is unlikely to arrive through a conventional transformation. Instead, the film appears to build its emotional impact through awkward encounters, cultural differences and the everyday challenges of suddenly caring for a child.

The New York Film Festival describes the film as moving from irreverent satire toward genuine emotional pathos, while emphasizing its exploration of unconventional family life and the idea that it is never too late to grow up.

That description captures what makes the movie potentially more substantial than its wild premise suggests.

    A Strong Ensemble Surrounds Firstman

The supporting cast adds another reason to keep Club Kid on the radar. Cara Delevingne, Diego Calva, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Colleen Camp join Firstman and newcomer Reggie Absolom.

Diego Calva, in particular, brings recognizable dramatic credibility following his acclaimed work in Babylon, while Delevingne has continued expanding her film and television career into increasingly varied roles.

But the film’s biggest discovery may be Absolom. Because the emotional center depends heavily on Peter’s relationship with his son, the chemistry between the two leads will be crucial.

    Why A24’s Involvement Matters

A24 taking worldwide rights after the film’s Cannes premiere was a significant vote of confidence. Variety reported that the distributor acquired the film for a reported $17 million following competitive bidding involving several major buyers.

That acquisition positions Club Kid as more than a small independent curiosity. A24 clearly sees commercial and awards-season potential in Firstman’s debut.

The film also arrives with strong festival momentum. Its Cannes appearance placed it within one of the world’s most closely watched showcases for emerging filmmakers, giving the movie an international profile well before its theatrical release.

    Final Thought

Club Kid looks like the kind of A24 film that can surprise audiences by starting as a chaotic comedy and gradually revealing something much more tender underneath. Its story about an irresponsible club promoter suddenly becoming a father has obvious comic potential, but the trailer suggests that Jordan Firstman is aiming for something broader: a film about identity, unconventional family, responsibility and the uncomfortable process of growing up.

With its Cannes debut, distinctive New York setting, impressive supporting cast and A24 backing, Club Kid deserves attention ahead of its November 6, 2026 theatrical release.

For viewers looking for an upcoming A24 movie that blends sharp comedy with genuine emotional stakes, this one could be worth watching.
