Emmy Nominations 2026: The Pitt and Hacks Set the Pace

The Emmy Nominations 2026 have delivered a striking early verdict on the television season, with HBO Max productions taking center stage. The Pitt emerged as the overall leader with 25 nominations, while Hacks followed with 24, giving the network two of the biggest contenders across drama and comedy.

For The Pitt, the recognition is particularly significant. The medical drama enters this year’s race as the reigning Emmy winner in the outstanding drama series category. Its latest haul represents a major increase from the show’s 13 nominations last year, demonstrating how strongly its second awards campaign has resonated with voters.

The Pitt Leads the 2026 Emmy Race

With 25 nominations, The Pitt sits at the top of the overall television leaderboard.

The HBO Max medical drama received recognition in the outstanding drama series category and collected 13 acting nominations, underlining the strength of its ensemble. Leading the charge is Noah Wyle, whose performance earned him another opportunity to compete for the lead actor prize.

The scale of the nominations suggests that the program has moved beyond being a successful medical series and established itself as one of the defining dramas of the current television landscape.

Its success also places additional attention on the increasingly competitive drama category, where established favorites and newer prestige productions continue to battle for television’s most coveted honors.

Hacks Makes Emmy History

Only one nomination separates Hacks from the year’s overall leader.

The fifth season of the acclaimed comedy collected 24 nominations, making it the most nominated comedy in Emmy history, according to the supplied Variety report. The achievement places the series ahead of the previous record holders, The Bear and The Studio, which each received 23 nominations.

For a series approaching its final chapter, the timing could hardly be more significant.

Jean Smart Has Another Chance at History

One of the biggest individual storylines involves Jean Smart.

The veteran performer is now competing for what could become her fifth Emmy for Hacks and her eighth acting Emmy overall. A victory would put her level with the record for the most Emmy acting wins by an actress.

That possibility gives the comedy race an additional layer of intrigue. Beyond the show’s impressive nomination count, Smart’s campaign has become a major awards-season storyline in its own right.

Why the 2026 Race Matters

The nominations reveal an interesting contrast in this year’s television landscape. The Pitt represents the continued strength of high-end serialized drama, while Hacks demonstrates that sophisticated character-driven comedy can still command extraordinary recognition from Emmy voters.

Both productions also benefit from strong ensemble performances, memorable central characters and established critical momentum.

For audiences, the nominations provide more than a list of potential winners. They offer a snapshot of where television’s creative conversation currently stands and which productions have managed to turn critical attention into meaningful industry recognition.

With the final winners still to be decided, The Pitt and Hacks have already made the 2026 Emmy race considerably more compelling..

Final Thought

The biggest surprise may not be that HBO Max is dominating the conversation, but how decisively its leading titles have done so. The Pitt has strengthened its position as a premier drama, while Hacks has turned its farewell season into an awards milestone. The final ceremony will determine who takes home the trophies, but the 2026 nominations have already established these two shows as the season’s defining Emmy contenders.

The ceremony will air on September 14, 2026, hosted by Mariska Hargitay.
