Christmas films often rely on familiar ingredients: snow-covered streets, festive decorations, a last-minute crisis and a hero who discovers what the season really means. The Man with the Bag takes that seasonal formula in a livelier direction. In the newly released official trailer, Arnold Schwarzenegger steps into Santa Claus’s red suit, while Alan Ritchson plays the thief recruited to help recover Santa’s stolen magic bag. The result looks set to mix holiday fantasy with a full-scale heist comedy.
Prime Video has confirmed that the film will premiere worldwide on December 2, 2026. That gives the action-comedy a timely place in the holiday viewing calendar, while the trailer offers an early look at a Christmas story built around an unlikely partnership rather than a traditional gift-delivery adventure.
A Stolen Bag Puts Christmas in Danger
The central problem is simple, but the consequences are enormous. Santa’s iconic red bag is stolen by a rogue elf with a grudge, played by Awkwafina. With Christmas Eve approaching and his most important job at risk, Santa needs help from someone who knows how to get into places where he does not belong.
That unlikely recruit is Vance, a thief portrayed by Ritchson. Santa finds him on the Naughty List and gives him a chance to make things right by leading a crew to retrieve the missing bag. Vance gathers a team of criminally skilled misfits, with elves and reindeer also becoming part of the operation. The mission turns Santa’s familiar Christmas world into the setting for an unusual festive robbery.
The premise gives The Man with the Bag a clear comic engine. Santa has the magic, but Vance has the practical experience of a professional thief.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Brings a Different Kind of Santa
Schwarzenegger’s casting is one of the film’s biggest talking points. The actor is widely associated with action franchises and larger-than-life screen characters, but he also has a notable place in Christmas movie history through Jingle All the Way. The Man with the Bag brings him back to the holiday genre three decades later, this time as Santa Claus himself.
The trailer leans into the contrast between the familiar image of Santa and Schwarzenegger’s distinctive screen presence. Rather than presenting a quiet background figure, this Santa appears ready to take charge when Christmas faces a serious threat. That choice gives the film a recognizable star attraction and a playful angle for viewers who remember Schwarzenegger’s earlier Christmas comedy.
Ritchson provides a different kind of energy as Vance. Known to many viewers for Prime Video’s Reacher, he brings an action-oriented presence to a character whose criminal skills become unexpectedly useful.
A Broad Ensemble Supports the Holiday Adventure
The supporting cast includes Awkwafina, Liza Koshy, Kyle Mooney, Jane Krakowski, Ken Jeong, Berkeley James and Michael Cyril Creighton. Awkwafina plays the rogue elf whose actions set the story in motion, while the wider ensemble gives the film a range of comic performers to support its fantasy and action elements.
Adam Shankman directs the movie from a screenplay by Allan Rice. Shankman’s previous work includes Hairspray and Disenchanted. That background makes him a fitting choice for a project that needs to balance a magical Christmas setting with the mechanics of a caper.
What the Trailer Suggests About the Film
The strongest hook is the reversal at the heart of the story: Santa has to rely on a thief to save Christmas. That setup opens the door to a different kind of holiday adventure, one where planning a break-in becomes just as important as believing in Christmas magic.
The story’s themes appear to reach beyond the stolen property. Amazon describes the film as an adventure about second chances, unlikely friendships and the idea that even Santa sometimes needs help. Vance’s opportunity to do something meaningful, the involvement of his daughter and Santa’s urgent mission all create space for a family-focused story.
For viewers searching for a new Christmas action comedy, the combination is easy to understand: a famous action star as Santa, a skilled thief as his partner, a mischievous elf as the catalyst and a crew of misfits racing against the holiday deadline. The concept is unusual enough to stand out among seasonal releases, while its familiar themes should make it accessible to a broad audience.
The Man with the Bag Release Date and Where to Watch
The Man with the Bag is scheduled to premiere globally on Prime Video on December 2, 2026. The film is directed by Adam Shankman and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as Santa Claus and Alan Ritchson as Vance, with Awkwafina, Liza Koshy, Kyle Mooney, Jane Krakowski and Ken Jeong among the supporting cast.
The official trailer sets up a Christmas story with a mischievous twist, but the film will have to deliver on both sides of its premise: the excitement of a heist and the warmth expected from a holiday movie. If it can make those elements work together, The Man with the Bag could become a distinctive addition to this year’s festive watchlist.
For now, the trailer offers a promising first look at Santa’s most unconventional rescue mission yet.
Final Thought
The Man with the Bag looks ready to bring a refreshing twist to the Christmas movie season. With Arnold Schwarzenegger stepping into Santa Claus’s boots, Alan Ritchson adding action-driven energy, and Awkwafina bringing her distinctive comedy style, the film promises an entertaining mix of holiday magic, unexpected teamwork, and festive mischief. Its unusual stolen-bag storyline gives the traditional Christmas adventure a playful new direction. If the movie delivers on the excitement and humor shown in its official trailer, it could become one of the most entertaining holiday releases of 2026. Mark December 2, 2026, on your calendar and get ready for a Christmas mission unlike any other!
