A new Turkish-Iranian digital drama is bringing one of the most consequential periods in Palestinian history to the screen. Zeytin Çiçekleri, also known as Olive Blossoms, has begun filming, with Ecem Çalhan and Tolga Sala leading an eight-episode story set in 1947 and 1948.

Written by Mehrdad Gaffatzadeh, the series combines historical upheaval, family struggles, political tension, and a mystery that threatens to change the lives of its central characters. Its story unfolds in Safed, a Palestinian city where familiar routines continue even as the political situation becomes increasingly dangerous.

The production’s premise sets the stage for a drama in which personal choices become inseparable from the fate of a community.

Zeytin Çiçekleri Begins Filming: What We Know

Filming reportedly began during the week preceding the October 21, 2026, announcement. The eight-episode project brings Turkish and Iranian filmmakers together to tell a story rooted in Palestine’s turbulent late-1940s history.

Feride Özal and Rıza Özal are leading the production, while Ahmet Toklu handles directing and project design. Oğuz Çetinkaya serves as casting director.

The announced premise places the action against the backdrop of escalating political tensions, arrests, disputes over land, and growing uncertainty about whether local residents can remain in their homes.

Rather than presenting history solely through political developments, the series follows people whose ambitions, relationships, and daily lives are caught up in events beyond their control.

The announcement does not yet confirm a release date or the streaming platform that will carry the series.

Ecem Çalhan Plays Maria, a Woman Torn Between Two Futures

Ecem Çalhan takes on the role of Maria, a radio presenter in Safed who hopes to pursue journalism professionally.

Maria receives an acceptance letter from Sorbonne University in Paris, offering her the possibility of a different future. Yet leaving is far from straightforward. Her brother, Yusuf, is imprisoned, her mother is ill, and her broadcasts have attracted the attention of military authorities.

Her dilemma gives the story a compelling personal dimension. Paris represents education and opportunity, while her responsibilities at home pull her in another direction.

Maria also refuses to ignore the events unfolding around her. As political tensions intensify, she continues investigating troubling incidents in Safed.

Her determination to seek answers could put her in greater danger, especially when her questions lead toward a case involving a respected local doctor.

Tolga Sala’s Dr. Faysal Faces a Murder Accusation

Tolga Sala plays Dr. Faysal Bedran, a well-known physician and landowner who enjoys the trust of the local community.

Faysal’s life takes a dramatic turn after an armed attack at Zeytin Café. He rushes to help the wounded, apparently acting according to his responsibilities as a doctor. However, he is subsequently arrested on a murder charge.

The circumstances raise an immediate question: is Faysal responsible for the crime, or has someone deliberately made him a target?

Maria suspects that the doctor has been framed and begins investigating what happened. Her search for the truth becomes a central thread in the unfolding narrative.

This mystery gives Zeytin Çiçekleri a suspense-driven storyline alongside its historical setting. The investigation may also bring Maria into conflict with powerful interests, although the available announcement does not reveal how the case will ultimately unfold.

Safed: Everyday Life Amid Political Uncertainty

One of the most significant elements of the series is its setting.

In the story, Safed remains a place of markets, bakeries, shops, and established community relationships. Muslim and Christian families have lived alongside one another for generations, creating a familiar social landscape.

Yet the atmosphere changes as arrests increase and struggles over land become more intense. Ordinary activities continue, but the future grows less certain.

This contrast between daily life and political upheaval could become one of the drama’s defining features. By following families, professionals, and young people facing difficult decisions, the series has an opportunity to explore how historical events affect individual lives.

The years 1947 and 1948 are central to the announced premise, placing the fictional characters within a period of profound change in Palestine. The series’ specific historical interpretations and portrayal of events will be worth examining as more details emerge.

Why Turkish Drama Fans May Want to Watch

Several elements make Zeytin Çiçekleri a project to watch.

First, its Turkish-Iranian creative collaboration brings filmmakers from two national industries together. Second, its eight-episode format provides room for a focused story involving political tension, personal sacrifice, and a developing criminal investigation.

The two lead characters also have distinct motivations. Maria must weigh education and personal ambition against family obligations, while Faysal faces a serious accusation that threatens his reputation and freedom.

Their stories create two complementary sources of suspense: Maria’s search for answers and Faysal’s struggle to confront the accusation against him.

However, important details remain unannounced. Viewers are still waiting for confirmed information about the full cast, release date, streaming platform, and official trailer.

    Final Thoughts

Zeytin Çiçekleri is shaping up to be a historical drama built around difficult choices, political uncertainty, and a mystery with potentially far-reaching consequences.

With Ecem Çalhan as Maria and Tolga Sala as Dr. Faysal Bedran, the series places two central characters in a story where personal hopes collide with the pressures of a turbulent era.

For fans following new Turkish digital dramas, the next important updates will be the first trailer, additional casting announcements, and confirmation of where and when the eight episodes will premiere.
