Romantic comedies work best when they find humor in situations that feel emotionally believable. Love Language appears ready to do exactly that. The newly released official trailer from Vertical introduces a sharp romantic comedy built around failed relationships, unfinished feelings, professional ambition and one particularly inconvenient wedding.

The film stars Chloë Grace Moretz as Louisa “Lou” Klaussner, an aspiring writer who finds an unusual way to make money after a failed engagement. Instead of writing the novel she has been struggling to finish, Lou begins writing wedding vows for other people. The job sounds harmless enough until one of her clients turns out to be engaged to the man she once loved.

Written and directed by Joey Power, Love Language premiered at the 2026 SXSW Film & TV Festival before Vertical scheduled its U.S. release for October 23, 2026, in select theaters and on digital/VOD.

A Wedding-Vow Writer With a Problem of Her Own

The central idea gives Love Language an immediately appealing hook. Lou spends her working days finding the right words for couples who want to express their feelings, yet she cannot seem to understand her own romantic life.

That contradiction gives the movie plenty of room for comedy and emotional tension.

After her engagement fails, Lou turns to wedding-vow writing as a side hustle. The business introduces her to Dash, played by Anthony Ramos, a charismatic serial dater who sees an opportunity in the wedding industry and encourages Lou to take the work seriously.

Their chemistry creates one side of the film’s romantic equation. But Lou’s past has not disappeared.

She reconnects with Warren, her college best friend and longtime crush, played by Manny Jacinto. The situation immediately becomes complicated when Lou discovers that Warren is engaged to Olivia, played by Isabel May, who also happens to be one of Lou’s clients.

That setup transforms a familiar love triangle into something considerably messier.

The Trailer Teases a “Love Rectangle”

The trailer’s biggest strength comes from the way it refuses to present Lou’s romantic problem as a simple choice between two men.

Instead, the story places four people in an emotional collision course. Lou has feelings for Warren, Warren has a relationship with Olivia, Lou is developing a connection with Dash, and Olivia has hired Lou to help create the very wedding vows that could expose the complicated emotions underneath the celebration.

That creates an ironic situation at the heart of the film: Lou has to write about lasting love while trying to figure out whether she understands love at all.

The trailer also suggests that Lou’s professional struggles mirror her personal confusion. She wants to become a successful writer, but writer’s block keeps getting in the way. Her wedding-vow business gives her an unexpected creative outlet while simultaneously forcing her to confront romantic questions she would rather avoid.

That balance could give Love Language more substance than a conventional romantic comedy.

Chloë Grace Moretz Leads a Strong Ensemble

Chloë Grace Moretz anchors the film as Lou, while Anthony Ramos and Manny Jacinto provide the two major romantic complications. Isabel May completes the central relationship dynamic as Olivia.

The supporting cast adds another layer of comedy and personality. Billie Lourd, Lukas Gage and Chloe Fineman also appear in the movie, creating an ensemble that gives the story plenty of room for fast dialogue and awkward encounters.

Joey Power writes and directs the film and previously directed After Everything. The production team includes Bert Hamelinck, Allison Hironaka, Ari Lubet, Colin Jost and Jeff Grosvenor.

What Makes Love Language Stand Out?

The most interesting element is not simply the romantic competition. It is the contrast between writing about love and actually experiencing it.

Lou can create beautiful words for strangers, but her own emotions resist easy sentences. That premise gives the film an opportunity to explore the difference between romantic language and genuine emotional connection without abandoning the humor expected from the genre.

The trailer also places the story in a modern dating environment while keeping the emotional conflict recognizable. Career uncertainty, old crushes, failed engagements and unexpected chemistry remain timeless romantic-comedy territory.

Early critical reactions following the film’s SXSW premiere have also recognized the movie’s grounded romantic-comedy approach, with reviews noting its interest in the emotional complications behind the fantasy.

Love Language Release Date and Where to Watch

Love Language will arrive in select U.S. theaters and on digital/VOD on October 23, 2026. The film has a reported runtime of approximately 1 hour and 44 minutes and falls within the comedy and romance genres.

For readers following new romantic comedies, the Love Language official trailer makes the movie worth keeping on the October watchlist. It combines an accessible romantic setup with an unusually tangled relationship structure, while Moretz leads a cast capable of balancing awkward comedy with genuine emotional stakes.

    Final Thought

Love Language looks like a refreshing romantic comedy that mixes heartfelt emotions with the chaos of modern relationships. With Chloë Grace Moretz at the center, the film promises plenty of awkward moments, unexpected chemistry, and complicated choices. The trailer suggests that finding the right words for love may be much easier than understanding the heart itself.
