Sometimes a film role becomes more personal than an actor ever expects. For Hilal Altınbilek, that connection appears to have been especially powerful with Öngörü, Disney+’s new Turkish drama about dreams, fate and the unsettling possibility of seeing the future.

In the film, Altınbilek plays Selen, a woman whose dreams reveal glimpses of the future. Her unusual ability allows her to see what may happen to other people, but the gift becomes far more frightening when she encounters a vision connected to her own fate. Disney+ describes Selen as someone whose dreams reveal the future and whose encounter with Kemal changes both her understanding of destiny and her emotional life.

The remarkable part is that Altınbilek recently revealed an experience from her own life that bears an unexpected resemblance to the film.

A Dream That Stayed With Hilal Altınbilek

Speaking with journalist Birsen Altuntaş alongside her Öngörü co-star Serkan Çayoğlu, Altınbilek recalled dreaming about her father’s death approximately six years before he actually passed away.

According to her account, her father, Özdemir Altınbilek, was not suffering from a known illness when she had the dream. She said the experience felt extraordinarily real and left her frightened when she woke up. She also recalled crying for a long time because she could not understand what she had experienced.

What makes the story particularly striking is the timeline. Altınbilek said that several years after the dream, her family discovered that her father was ill. Six years after she first had the dream, she lost him in 2023. She later reflected that, after making Öngörü, she wondered whether what she had experienced could have been a premonition.

It is an intensely personal story, and Altınbilek did not present it as a scientific explanation of dreams. Instead, she described the experience from her own perspective: something frightening, deeply emotional and impossible for her to fully explain.

Why the Story Feels So Relevant to Öngörü

That personal connection adds another layer to Altınbilek’s performance as Selen.

Öngörü is built around one of the oldest questions in storytelling: What would you do if you knew what was going to happen? Selen’s ability initially appears to offer power. If she can see the future, perhaps she can prevent tragedy or change people’s destinies.

But the film turns that apparent gift into a burden.

The official Disney+ synopsis reveals that Selen eventually dreams about her own death and sees a mysterious man attempting to save her. That man is Kemal, played by Serkan Çayoğlu. Their meeting places Selen between fear, love and the possibility that destiny cannot simply be rewritten.

This makes Altınbilek’s real-life story particularly intriguing without suggesting that the actress and her character are experiencing the same circumstances. The similarity lies in the emotional question: What does it mean to see something frightening before you understand what it means?

A Strong Creative Match Between Actor and Character

Öngörü comes from Ay Yapım, with Ali Bilgin directing and Sema Ergenekon credited with the original story and screenplay. The film brings together Altınbilek and Çayoğlu in a story combining drama, romance, mystery and questions surrounding fate.

That combination gives the film more than a conventional supernatural premise. At its heart, Öngörü appears interested in free will and emotional consequences. Knowing the future does not necessarily make life easier. In some cases, it may make every decision harder.

That is also what makes Altınbilek’s comments resonate beyond entertainment headlines. Her experience provides an unusually personal perspective on a movie concerned with dreams that appear to carry meaning.

The Emotional Weight Behind Her Performance

For viewers discovering Öngörü through Altınbilek’s revelation, it may be tempting to view the film entirely through the lens of her personal experience. But the stronger approach is to appreciate the distinction between real life and fiction.

Her story is a personal account, while Selen is a fictional character created for the film. There is no need to prove whether Altınbilek’s dream was genuinely predictive to understand why it affected her so profoundly.

That emotional authenticity may nevertheless add something subtle to her portrayal. An actor does not need to experience exactly what a character experiences to understand fear, uncertainty, grief or the feeling of being unable to change an outcome.

And Öngörü is ultimately built around those universal emotions.

    Why Öngörü Is Drawing Attention

The film arrived on Disney+ on August 28, 2026, placing a Turkish original with an unusual supernatural-romantic premise in front of an international streaming audience. Disney+ officially lists the film as a drama and romance, with a runtime of approximately 96 minutes.

For Altınbilek, however, the project now carries an additional personal dimension.

Her revelation about her father does not change the meaning of Öngörü, but it certainly makes the film’s central idea feel more poignant. A story about dreams predicting the future became intertwined with an actress remembering one of the most unsettling dreams of her own life.

That coincidence is perhaps the most compelling part of the story not because it provides an answer about whether dreams can predict the future, but because it leaves a question behind.

What would you do if a dream showed you something you desperately hoped would never happen?

For Selen, that question becomes the foundation of Öngörü. For Hilal Altınbilek, it became an unexpectedly personal memory that she carried for years.

And that is what makes her latest revelation far more than a promotional anecdote.

    FINAL THOUGHT

Hilal Altınbilek’s story gives Öngörü an unexpectedly intimate connection between fiction and real life. Whether viewed as coincidence, intuition or something she personally considers a premonition, the experience clearly left a lasting impression on the actress. The film’s larger question remains compelling: can knowing the future really help us change it?
